In the golden autumn of September, the global engineering consulting industry is focusing its attention on Geneva, Switzerland, where the highly anticipated FIDIC 2024 Global Infrastructure Conference is being held. General Manager Li Yun and Deputy General Manager Shi Lei, representing Zeshi Consulting, have traveled to this international event to gain a deeper understanding of the current state and development trends in the global engineering consulting industry and to foster exchanges and cooperation with colleagues from around the world.
FIDIC
The International Federation of Consulting Engineers (Fédération Internationale Des Ingénieurs Conseils, abbreviated as FIDIC in French) is transliterated into Chinese as “Feidike.” Its English name is the International Federation of Consulting Engineers. It refers to this independent international organization—the International Federation of Consulting Engineers—established in 1913 in Ghent, Belgium, by independent associations of consulting engineers from three European countries: Belgium, France, and Switzerland. FIDIC is the most authoritative consulting-engineering organization internationally and is recognized by the World Bank.

The theme of this conference is “Infrastructure Transforms Lives—Investing in the Construction of a Better World Shared by All.” This theme profoundly reflects the global shared vision of improving living environments and raising people’s economic standards through high-quality, sustainable, environmentally friendly, and efficient infrastructure.
In her opening remarks, FIDIC President Catherine Karakatsanis said she was honored to lead an organization that represents such a vital sector of the world—and whose work has had such a positive impact on the lives of billions of people worldwide.

During the two-day conference, engineering consulting experts, government officials, representatives from financial institutions, and members of civil society organizations from around the world gathered to engage in in-depth exchanges and discussions on topics including: “What does first-class infrastructure look like and how can it serve everyone?”; “The value dilemma—how to strike a balance between costs and long-term sustainability”; “Focusing on the developing world—how to adopt different delivery approaches in a diverse global landscape”; “How to build key partnerships amid shifting mindsets to achieve delivery goals”; and “How technological advancements can help deliver better and more efficient infrastructure projects.”

During the conference, FIDIC held its annual awards gala, unveiling the winners of FIDIC’s various annual prizes. This prestigious event recognized numerous outstanding projects and highlighted the industry’s innovative vitality and remarkable achievements. Among them, five projects from China won the prestigious “FIDIC Project Award,” accounting for one-third of all global award recipients. Since the establishment of this award in 2013, Chinese projects have topped the list of winners for eleven consecutive years.

After the meeting, General Manager Li Yun and his delegation, along with other representatives from the China Engineering Consulting Association, continued on to Lisbon, Portugal, and Madrid, Spain, where they engaged in close cooperation and dialogue with locally renowned engineering consulting firms. These interactions not only deepened mutual understanding and trust but also paved the way for potential future collaboration opportunities.
